Kalonji – one of the most important herbs

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Kalonji as it is called in Hindi and Urdu, Shooneez in Persian, Nigella sativa, caraway in English and not the least Habbatul baraka, Black Seed called in Arabic the language of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), available almost in the whole world, has been used in Unani Tibb or Ayurvedic forms of treatment as one of the most important ingredients of such medicines. Various Hadiths of the Prophet (PBUH) have been narrated that (Kalonji) Black Seed can heal every disease except death. It has also been narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) himself used to use Kalonji with Honey for various types of ailments.
It is recommended that a few grams of Kalonji should always be kept at home especially in a village (country side) and use it in several domestic totakas (a tip for curing a problem) where it can do wonders being cheaper and easily available in the absence of other medical treatment.
Traditionally, Kalonji oil, Kalonji syrup or crushed Kalonji seeds are being used for ailments, to mention only a few, like Allergies of various types, Asthma, Cancer, Cough causing Mucus (Balgham), Diabetes, Arthritis, Headache, gas, indigestion, stomach dysfunction, Mirgee (a disease of the nervous system that causes a person to fall unconscious), Dandruff and hair loss, Obesity, Piles, stomach worms, tooth care and several other diseases. Half tea spoon of crushed kalonji seeds two/three times a day or three or four drops of kalonji oil useful for maintaining general health condition or preventing many types of body ailments.
